I’ve been meaning to say this for a while now

Kinja'd!!!

Automatic sensor activated plumbing fixtures are the worst. Seriously, what was wrong with a button, handle or knob? They’ve been trying to fix one on a toilet where I work for a year...they finally just installed a manual one. And don’t get me started on the sink the other bathroom.

If its battery operated and controls the flow of water, I want nothing to do with it.

Technically they’re battery powered and light beam operated.

hey, at least its a mix valve. If I go to a house with intentionally installed hot/cold separate valves...that person and I can’t be friends. (in the US at least)

those are perfect in public restrooms cause who knows who touched it before you.

But not in my house.

I don’t even like them in public restrooms mainly because the touching of the sink valve seems like only one of 1000 ingress points for picking something up in a public bathroom so whats the trouble in worrying about it? Its like trying to not get sick when your kids are...yeah...good luck with that one buddy

We have a sensor-operated sink in our men’s room at work. One of the faucets periodically comes on for no reason. Ghost washing his hands or electrical problem? Wanna come take a look?

The ones in my office are horrible. And I can only imagine how much water they waste. In the amount of time it would take a normal person to use a restroom stall, it will flush at least four times. How the hell is that efficient?!

Kinja'd!!! HammerheadFistpunch > Chariotoflove

Kinja'd!!!0

The toilet mentioned would do that, and the other faucet mentioned would only turn on AFTER you tried to get it to go and then gave up and moved on to the next one....then it would stay on.

They’re usually paired with a low flow flush valve, I think it’s .5 gallons IIRC.

Oh man here I go on this rant.

At work we have terrible sensor faucets. One guy even yelled out one day “I FEEL LIKE A MONKEY TAKING A FUCKING IQ TEST - TURN ON!!!”. I almost fell over laughing at that one.

Also at work, 2 out of 3 of our bathrooms have auto-flush toilets. This causes the random forgotten flush in one bathroom because of it. One day I walked out of the non-sensor toilet and had to stop and turn around and go back in to flush it because I almost forgot. They’re setting us up for failure here man.

I once found a bathroom with automated soup and hand towels. Manual faucet. WTF? If you have to pick between the soup and the faucet, always pick the faucet.

Careful, you might get me started, too.

I have such a hard time getting the sensors to recognize my hands that sometimes I’ll walk down the counter, waving my hands under every faucet trying to find one that works. And one of them has to work dammit, because now I’ve got soap on my hands that needs rinsed off. I’m still not sure if waving works any better than holding my hands still underneath the faucet.

I hate them as much as I hate those push faucets that spray for 1.5 seconds before you have to hit them again.

I bet you don’t miss those old never-dry loop-towels!

What I do miss, though, are the foot pedal-activated faucets. I can’t remember the last time I saw one. Those are my favorite.

What I really love are the automatic ones that shoot out little tiny streams and only have about six inches of clearance between faucet and sink. You're pretty much guaranteed to be touching the bottom of the sink and that is far more nasty than any handle will generally be

I also would like to express anger at some plumbing fixtures. At my college they have these automatic faucets which have been reliable but they have such restrictive nozzles on them that the water comes out at such high pressure it blasts all over the place leaving your pants looking like you pissed em.

Isn’t it less efficient to blast the water all over the place than using it to actually rinse hands?

We’ll look back someday and realize the rise of the machines began with automatic toilets flushing before we’re done.
